[Warning! yet another xo-on-a-soapbox post follows]
I'm prompted to request this after noticing one particularly egregious example come through abmar - someone requested 5 episodes of Macross and someone else was kind enough to fulfill the request ... but it appears that they packaged up the entire 5 episode set as one RAR archive!
Now, I don't mean to point fingers and I may be incorrect about this posting- there have been numerous others posting 2 episodes together as of late. I just wanted to use it as an example. Not only did it seem like a flagrant use of the newsgroups for personal trading, I think this is a kind of post that should be strongly discouraged.
If it had been posted as 5 separate eps, lurkers could've benefitted by grabbing any number of the 5 and made the post more than just a peer-to-peer trade. As it is, I wonder who would download 5 episodes to fill one or two episodes that match their holes. Or if anyone else had exactly the same missing eps.
Though I'm not really collecting these Macross eps (I opted for the SVCDs from ampeg - d'oh!), I do lurk and rarely make requests, so don't underestimate how many people might benefit from your posts. It's not that much more work with automated posting software.
Anyway, I submitted a note to the FAQ in the posting section. Maybe it'll dissuade someone from doing this in the future.

Glad you submitted that. As I was reading your post I was already planning a reply asking you to do so.
Archiving multiple eps has always seemed generally good for individual trading and bad for broadcast medium, so I agree that it really doesn't belong in AB(M)A. |
