Hi all, I'm sure most of ya'll don't remember me, since I haven't posted/replied/requested anything on the newsgroups for well over a year. I run an ftp server for fills. (That rings any bells?) Btw... it is still running, only lately my retention has only been for 3 days... too much postings as of late. If you'd like access to it, feel free to IM me.

Anywayz, on to a subject I would like to share.

My favorite vid player is the DivX player. Unfortunately it has some faults. It won't play xvid w/o a FourCC modificatoin, and crashes on seeking certain vid files.

I'm addressing the crashing on seek.

As it turns out I found out that 99% of the time, the cause of this is audio related. DivX player can't seek WMA encoded audio.

How to fix this? Do the following.

1: Rip out the audio using Virtual dub.
A: Open file in Virtual dub.
B: Set Audio to Full processing mode.
C: Set Audio compression to uncompressed (PCM)
D: Save as WAV.

This should produce a WAV file approx the size of the original AVI file.

2: Reencode audio file with LAME 3.92
A: Use the following settings
"-V 128 <filename>.wav <filename>.mp3"
works for most files.

This generates a VBR MP3 file.

3: Remux the audio using Nandub.
A: Load original AVI in Nandub.
B: Load Audio (VBR) MP3. (Keep audio as direct stream copy)
C: Set Video to direct stream copy.
D: Save as AVI, new filename naturally.

You should now have a video file that the DivX player likes.

Or you could use Zoom Player. Very Happy

BTW, re-encoding wma audio has caused audio sync problems with me before. So be warned, that your method can cause async.

Yeah, I agree... it is always a good idea to double check the end product before deleting the original. It's rare
