One of my friends' roommates looks just like this character-- unfortunately, nobody seems to have any clue where they found this picture, and his roommates are wondering what series it might've come from. Also unfortunately, the JPEG file doesn't have any information embedded in it.
Do any of you have any idea what show it might be from (even if it's a hentai show)? Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to give me!
Here's the pic:

I saw it when you posted it earlier -- sorry, no bells went off for me. Looking at it again, do you get the feeling it could be from something more then a little ecchi? Something about the tilt of the mouth perhaps...

Heh, it does look rather ecchi to me as well, the entire animation style of the female seems to support this, but I am no expert in animation styles.
I was trying to figure out what kind of setting it would be. It looks like an office of a some sort. Maybe a school or hospital? Just ideas... I think so because of the pictures on the wall and the Kanji, which I have no idea what it means, and the cieling - blue tiled. As well as the the appearance of a clipboard or folder of some sorts in her hand, kind of an odd color so I don't really know exactly what it is. |

I was thinking a school setting too. It kind of reminded me of that comedic series about the monster hunters and the haunted school. Can't remember the title right now. |

Gakkou no Kaiden?
Haunted Junction?
Heres an HJ ss, purple tiled cieling!
I don't think they look that familiar... I couldn't find any good ss's of Gakkou no Kaiden. Hope this is helping you somewhat, Melchior ;P |

Are you certain it's from anime? Looks more like a japanese adventure game (possibly hentai) still to me. Unfortunately, I have no ideas beyond that. I think the 320x240 resolution adds some credence to my argument. While I'm sure some anime have been encoded that, MANY games ran at that resolution for years. |

I think Keikai is onto something. The picture looks very detailed for typical anime, more than I would expect a video image downsampled to 320 would look like.

What I find strange is the kanji 忍 on the door meaning 'endure, to bear up with, spy, conceal, sneak'. A theme not found in many hentai settings.
I'm fairly sure it isn't from Haunted Juncton though... |

Yeah, I should have said that I was making the assumption that that was the original resolution since it looked, to me, like it had not been adjusted. Also the style of highlights in the hair is very CG-ish.
And honestly, the only reason I suggested hentai wasn't due to the discussion so much as my guess that usually, unless something is a little bit ecchi, they wouldn't show the hint of the black bra like in that image. But that's hardly definitive, simply an opinion. I'd keep any japanese adventure game with a target audience of teens or older as a possibility, which still leaves you with a needle in a haystack. But at least I'm hoping that I'm pointing you towards the right haystack. |

Cool, thanks for the help everybody! At least I know what direction to look towards-- I probably won't find anything, but oh well. At least she'll be weirded out knowing that (possibly) there's a hentai game with a lookalike character in it!
Some things I was thinking:
-Too much detail for a TV series
-Too sharp to have been captured from video
-Possibly could've originated from a DVD release of some movie or OAV, but the detail of the eyes is pretty high for even a movie/OAV.
-Too much colour variation (and too carefully-drawn) to be one of those older DOS-based games that I remember seeing several years back, implying that it's not *that* old of a release.
-The walls and ceiling make me thing of an old school or old office setting
-The pictures high up on the wall make me think of past company presidents, or past school principals.
I hadn't noticed the black bra! Thanks for pointing it out, Keikai!
Time to start looking at some computer games, see if I can round up a source... |

Ah, darn, that last post was me. For whatever reason, all the PHPBB boards (3 of them!!!) that I've visited today have lost my cookies, and I've had to log myself in again... |

It looks to be at least 16-bit color and more likely 24-bit color. The fact that the jpeg itself is 24-bit doesn't tell us anything directly about the source, of course, but it's likely what it was. But you are right that it's not that old.
If it is a game and not anime, then you might want to look around at the reviews at: http://www.densetsu.com/
Oh and was anime_anne.jpg the original filename? I tried a search for Anne at densetsu with no results, but since that's not a Japanese name, I was assuming that it was renamed after your friend. |

Yep, the name of the roommate is Anne, thus the filename, so no additional help there, unfortunately. |
