Usenet Veterans,

I'm seeing more and more posts with FTD # followed by a 5-digit string in the subject headers of binary posts. What does this mean? Where does it come from and how can I decipher it?

Thanks!

FTD has not too much to do with the anime groups. FTD is a Dutch user community for usenet where information is logged about posts to various newsgroups. This info can be viewed through a standalone application instead of the usual webinterface. There are also related forums where requests can be made for posts or fills, reviews of stuff, etc.

Onarka,

Thanks for the explanation. I browse alt.binaries.* hierarchy and often see many posts that list nothing but the FTD # in the subject header. In the case of large video posts, I would have to download part or all of the post in order to figure out what it is!

That's a handy little app you guys have... it's really an ingenious way of keeping track of binary posts. If it had (a) an English translation, and (b) a Mac OS X version, then I'd be in Usenet heaven!

Oh, but there are many sites who do this sort of thing. Of course for the anime groups there's http://www.animeusenet.org/ (but you probably know that already) and for AB.sounds. anime there's http://anime-nl.net/absa/.

For other groups some include:

http://www.nfonews.com/
