User, Melchior's avatar reminds you of Agent because the Agent (or
at least Free Agent) splash screen and icon have a secret-agent type
guy wearing a hat like that. I admit I can't place Melchior's avatar
at all. Sad

Yeah, I looked at Agent's manual again after posting and realized that wasn't it. I can't place it either...

Depends on how you read this site. Everytime I visit, I just to right to the "show messages since last visit" link (I leave my login cookie active all the time), and it gives me a neat list of the new messages sorted by thread. Then I just open the interesting threads in multiple windows, and the new messages are easy to find because they're always at the end.

That's a good idea! I feel dumb for not noticing. Embarassed

I just noticed something else. This board also seems to keep track of individual messages by the little icon next to each "Posted:" heading. Read messages are white, whereas unread messages are orange. That's really cool!

(I also find it cool that it looks like the cookies are kept server-side instead of client-side, because I check this board from 3 computers, and it has never forgotten what I've already read... unlike the Ikonboard 2 I use on another forum.)

I've gotta admit, this BB package xo is using is pretty slick.

Yeah, it's really sweet! It also feels incredibly fast! I'm so tempted to look at this phpBB and try it out on my own site... and consider replacing the Ikonboard on that other forum.

Hey, neat. I hadn't noticed that. Thanks! Smile

Funny, while I've been very dependent on the orange post icon (in threads, the forum overviews, and forum details) to see what's new, I hadn't really made use of the "View posts since last visit" link - learned something new!

I've been more than happy with the phpBB package - I'd been constantly reviewing forum packages for a long time, having pretty specific requirements, and was never happy until phpBB 2.0 tree rolled around. I recommend it highly to anyone looking for forum functionality. The best part: it's free and open source! Why anyone would pay for vB escapes me.

Obtopic: Melchior, I'm waving the flag - what's your avatar from?!?

Aha. I never would have got that since I've never seen an episode of said series.
