I've seen you ask him nicely before not to flood. The guy just doesn't give a shit I guess. Confused

I'm not sure but the last time you asked him he replied that it was a matter of pp2k not allowing him to post queued files in multiple timed sections. Kind of a lazy man's polite BS reply IMO.

How f'n hard is it to queue up and post a couple episodes a day when you already have the files rar'd and par'd??? He could take all his rar'd and par'd episodes and break them up into separate directories holding 2 episodes worth each and queue and post a directory a day. (I'll credit him with the brains to figure out a directory naming convention that would keep him from getting confused as to what had/hadn't been posted.) Of course that would require him to spend 2 minutes a day fire'n up pp2k and queue'n up a directory worth and pressing the 'start posting' button. Which as we all know is an act requiering significant effort. Wink

/me sits back and waits for the 'monkey see monkey do' flooding to start again Wink

I have asked KrazyieBeN not to flood before (on 10/22), but don't confuse him with Nimh and his multi-schedule question, who, when asked, reduced his "Flood" to a "Trickle" and a "Splash" and a "Sprinkle"... Smile

Whichever one made up the excuse about PowerPost doesn't know how to use it. It's a piece of cake to queue everything up at once and then post it over multiple days - just queue them up, select all, set their status to "hold", then each day select the ones you're going to post and "re-queue" them, which removes the hold status. I do that all the time.

I certainly agree about the flooding though. It's a nuisant.

That is hardly flooding, on my end all the releases are complete going back a week, if your using a crappy ISP's usenet thats your problem, those of us with commercial ones (eg SuperNews and EasyNews) dont classify this as a problem.

Even with those you can only download so much... 6g I think for Easynews, right? You have someone that spams all that stuff and you can't keep up with it. The problem isn't just for people on ISP news providers.

ehh, if you have 6 GB limit, then dont d/l it. No one ask you to d/l it. If because of this post, you lost retention of a day old or 2 anime, get a better newsgroup provider like Giganews( 3 weeks retention ). If you lose 3 weeks old anime because of it... you only have yourself to spank

The issue, though, isn't retention. It's the 6 GB limit. The more stuff gets pushed off my local (24 hour retention) server, the more I have to hit Easynews to catch stuff I've missed. There was a time when I used a few hundred MB of my Easynews quota, but nowadays, I'm pushing my quota each month because I'm scrambling to get stuff that I missed because my local retention is shrinking.

It has nothing to do with downloading the particular series being flooded - it pushes everything off that much quicker and I can't check and set up downloads every 4 hours.

No, no one is asking me to d/l anything - but it sucks that paritcular individual behaviors can disrupt what I do want to download and create additional repost load for considerate posters, all for no benefit at all other than the some trivial convenience to the flooder.

And on top of that, the download caps that broadband ISPs are slowly starting to enforce or charge for exceeding. If your ISP wants you to stay under 6GB down per month and you download from anywhere other than EasyNews, then you can't make full use of your EasyNews account anyway.

It's in EVERYBODY'S best interest to avoid flooding. People who think otherwise are either not thinking things through, or are not thinking of others and the future. Flooding means less anime and/or more hassle for people.

We try to set a guideline of 300-400MB per day per poster, based on our perception of most peoples' retention times and other limitations. Obviously that can't be a hard rule since the number of posters fluctuates from week to week. But the point is, this guideline and the other rules in the FAQ all exist for the BENEFIT of the people who use the newsgroups, not to arbitrarily impose rules.

That's rather a selfish attitude. Posting caps are common in well organized groups and serve an important purpose. Most of the people you are arguing with are regulars that have one or more commercial accounts and are able to pull whatever they need. However, they are willing to fight for something that benefits others. I pay for 3 commercial accounts outside my ISP, have retention the same as you are reporting, and still I fully support the caps. Most posters want to observe them in order to be courteous. If you don't want to, that is your choice. If someone wants to place an abuse complaint when you do, that is their choice.

Funnnniiieeee -- SW was responding to a thread about KrayzieBeN from last NOVEMBER. Razz Of course it doesn't mean it still isn't applicable. As for SW's complaint, some folks just seem to have trouble comprehending the dawning existence of ISP caps that cover _everything_ you download, regardless of the source server.

As for KrayzieBeN's more current post...something interesting happened there. I know that G, for one, noticed the slowdown last week. As it happens, it occurred within hours after I sent an e-mail to sky-fire at dream-anime.net about the wisdom of flooding in the ng's. I don't know who is who or who knows who, but apparently someone listened to somebody....
