I powered through the series over the long weekend. I'm impressed and a little stunned. It was unbelievable mature and unlike any anime I've seen before. In fact, it wasn't anime (except for the comic bits at the restaurant), in the sense I usually think of it. Rather, it was real life, animated. I can't think of any other series were the characters were drawn with so much depth (maybe Azumanga Daioh...).
If you haven't watched this yet and have an appreciation for drama, give it try. Don't let the illustrations usually associated with it fool you - it's not a high school romance. Same goes for the first ep - watch at least two eps and see if you're not hooked.
Be warned though - it's crushingly sad at times, and somber throughout.

PS thanks to Onigiri for the great job on the series. It was their best worked that I've seen. |
