Instead of better it only gets worse...
More full movies, D-A starting to repost 1-2 days after a post at the same ridiculous volumes...
Ahh, the horror. Retention for me today was about 45 min less then usual. Lucky for me I have most of those series/movies already... |

<bitching>
Frack, yesterday I downloaded over 4GB of stuff... I'm battling my E: drive's fullness right now-- I may even have to dip into my emergency-space on my C and D drives! D-A, and more D-A...
</bitching>
Hmmm... I've got an old 13GB of questionable reliableness that I could toss in (during my harddrive failure problem last fall I ended up not being able to diagnoze which drive was at fault-- or if it was some problem with my IDE cable or something else-- once I separated my drives I couldn't get either one to fail in its own... So I sold that computer to a friend and gave him a 6-month guarantee on the drive that I put in it... 6 months is coming up soon, so maybe I can install the suspect 13G drive in my new computer...
Has anybody spoken with any of the D-A posters to talk about spreading their posts out over a larger period of time? I'm going on vacation for a couple weeks as soon as my exams are done, and I have concerns about downloading (5G * 14 days= 70G = scary) stuff that I missed once I get back...
...Dammit, it looks like I'll be doing a fair bit of downloading this summer-- three first-episodes that I downloaded in the last few days are looking quite promising-- Ajimu, Tokyo Underground, and something else that I can't remember... though this isn't a bad thing, it's more that I'm annoyed at myself for once again getting hooked on more good anime... Oh yeah, the other one was Chobits, which looks promising, though I don't quite understand their interest in porn sites-- I mean, strip clubs are so much better! I'm sure Tokyo's got strip clubs! I'd be more excited about that if I was some hick in the countryside than just porn sites-- I mean, any country hick with a computer can do email and porn sites...
But I digress. I'm downloading too much anime... |

Just by doing a rough count of rars/size from headers.. D-A posted around or over 1GB in 24 hours? And that was from one poster, think I saw someone else putting up some D-A. I've been floating around for a bit more than a year.. so I feel a bit uncomfortable putting out any kind of corrections..
Melchior, if you come across that situation, let me know.. I'll be more than glad to help you out.. especially from the time when you helped me out.. been looking for a chance.

Yeah, several people made requests in the main groups, but to no avail. Funny thing is KrayzieBeN is also registred here on the board, so he/she must have been here at least once.
According to this link http://groups.google.com/groups?as_umsgid=20020405120038.23513%40dsrs.nntp.sol.net&hl=enposted in ABA newsthread by dbm) he/she's posting really too much. Quite a questionable 'honor' to appear high on that list if you ask me.
Well good luck on the last of your exams and have a nice holiday. If you get back, send me a message if you like and I'll see if I can help out on the stuff you missed. |

Usually, I jump on AnimeUsenet.org to see what was posted the day before. Then if I see something I want, I go ahead and grab it. For the first time ever, I was having to grab fills from my giganews account because newsfeeds had already dropped them. I love it when people post, but that's just plain ridiculous. |

A lot of Usenet newbies really seem to have a hard time grasping the idea that more is not necessarily better. Having people from our groups frequently hitting the top of the charts that way is just asking for unwanted attention.
It really is a Problem of the Commons. |

What I don't get is what's with all the posting multiple episodes of a series in one day? With the new series this isn't so much a problem since the digisubbers can only get them out so fast, but do we really need THREE eps of Slayers a day? I understand putting out a whole series is a big time commitment, especially if it's long like Slayers in all its incarnations, but...come on! Even if I wanted to get it all I'd be hard-pressed to keep my CD burner going enough to keep room on my HD.
Usually I have no problems with the overall volume of posting, since up until now it's seemed like a good variety was going on. The multiple postings of the same series by different digisubbers is beginning to wear thin, but I can appreciate that most of these groups don't know what the others are doing in advance and as a series goes on usually it gets down to just one group continuing to put it out (although in cases like InuYasha it seems like all of them give up at once ^^ But posting multiple eps of the same show, especially shows that have been posted and reposted all over the place previously, is probably completely uneccesary. |

Looks like it is calming a little though. Even KrayzieBeN has slowed up, with a 3 day hiatus and then a pause between the two Gundam 0080 episodes. What is odd is that the Orphen 6 repost he was doing 3 days ago was only half done.

First, get a commerical usenet like EasyNews or SuperNews and all the problems go away,
Second, bitching about reporting people, well those who use these commercial usenet services are NOT violaiting their restrictions, hence there is absolutly nothing you can do in trying to have them stop. They are well within their rights to post what they want. |

Hehe, I thought that other thread from last November was bad, but a year ago?? Oh, well.... After seeing two of these, SW seems to have a bone to pick with me.
SW, it happens I have multiple premium accounts and have had for years (currently EN and Newscene), but that really has absolutely nothing to do with the issue, which is not personal but general. Its just a matter of what is best for the health of the groups as a whole; what enables the most efficient dissemination of anime for the most number of people. You're right, folks can, to some extent, post what they want; it doesn't mean they should. Also, aba and abma are both chartered and have publish faqs -- those who run most premium servers tend to respect those guidelines and will respond to abuse complaints.
As for getting a premium account to fix all problems, at one time that would have worked at least at some level, but more and more broadband isps are capping _all_ downloads regardless of the source it doesnt matter if youre getting it from your local server or a premium, it counts against you just the same. And as we see more folks attempt to post dvd true image files I expect the entertainment industry to bring even more pressure to bear to make such caps the norm.

erg.. a 4 page topic thought would be a nice read.. started in, sounded familiar.. kraziebean???? haven't heard about him a long time..
Read the post date.. march.. no too old.. few more posts... read the date again.. 2002.. ERG..
heh, but I guess on a similar note... is it me or has traffic actually decreased lately? Either that.. or Agent is assembling more Yenc lines properly (posted properly, rather).. or maybe I've gone senile at a younger age.. who knows.. |

This subject line makes for a good place to put a vent just after having to write two *explanatory* messages this morning in abma (regards hentai & floods). Is this already the start of the annual summer influx of anarchists/newbies? Anyway, here goes:

Ha, I feel better now...

Hehe, and I just got *plonked*. Probably happens all the time from folks not wanting to see the nags anymore, but its the first time anyone's bothered to actually tell be so in a looong time. I feel kind of honored, especially as it was for getting on 'em (...you figure out who...) about flooding, as about a valid issue as we have in aba/abma .... (could have been for "Do not post Sailormoon" or something else as relatively trival; now that would have been _irritating_)
