(..might as well follow up a bit..)
Well, Comic-con is running here: used to just be called a comic book convertion, but, as ADV says on its site, it's now the "...Nation's largest genre entertainment exposition." Genre Entertainment...what an interesting phrase. And I guess that's what anime falls under now.
So, how is it going...? From the local rag (the Union/Tribune):
10:52 a.m., July 19, 2003 Quote: | The lure of Comic-Con International may be too strong. Visitors trying to reach the comic book and pop culture convention Saturday morning found a line almost a mile long stretching from the entrance of the San Diego Convention Center west to Seaport Village. Convention-goers reaching the end of the line around 10:30 a.m. were told it was roughly a 1½-hour wait to register. Convention organizers had heavily promoted Saturday morning appearances by Oscar-winning actresses Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie. Last year's convention drew about 63,000 people over four days. This year's Comic-Con was expected to attract 70,000 to 80,000. |
