I find the choices of avatars kinda curious. There are a bunch I can't identify. So, thought I'd make a game of it.
If you check the memberlist, you can see small thumbnails for people who've upload avatars. Click on their username to get a full size image.

Lain of the Wired - Puchiko from Di Gi Charat?
vacuum - kinda small, but one of the Street Fighter characters?

Oh man, is mine *so* obvious that not even a guess is required? hehe, I had trouble trying to find a character that I had an image of that represented me reasonably well... Well, sort-of. |

Xo - Some Linux icon?
Fureimu - Il Palazzo's opposite number from Excel Saga.
Tobias Rieper - Mr. X or a very mean-looking Chuck Xavier.
Keikai - Ein from Bebop.
Onakra - Guu.
User - one of the girls from YUA?
Neuralblastoma - One of the aforementioned balls.
Bob - Tenchi.
AlienBoy - Zorak.
Lain - Petit Charat AKA Puchiko.
Vacuuum - Ken, SD version from Super Puzzle Fighter.
Ensui - Padodu & Oukichi from Mahou Yuugi.
The other two I had no clue about.

So what do I win? |

Quote: | Sure 'nuff, google tells me T.R. is from a game called Hitman. No guesses on Gorunova's though, and that's the one I was rather curious about! Wait, no help yet G, let's see if someone can identify it (unless you think's it's too random/obscure). Same for Melchior's. |

Quote: | That almost looks like a chibi fanart of Gourry Gabriev, except that the sword is all wrong (it should be flaring up white, not red, no?)... Hmm, well, that's my guess, for what it's worth. ^^; |

I notice we have a couple new avatars:
Quote: |
I think Snoopy'n'Me's is a chibi Sakura from Sakura Taisen.
BlueSeptember's is tricky. On the surface it looks like just a
steaming cup of coffee, but which particular cup of coffee is it?
What series or game is it from? I'm stumped!
|
As for my own avatar, here's the spoiler:
Quote: |
Two people were right: It's obscure, and it's a chibi Gourry. It's a small
section of a picture from one of the Slayers movie artbooks. The full
picture shows Lina in PJs leaning against a fish-shaped pillow, holding
the plushie Gourry that is my avatar. Actually, I was going more for
the sword as an avatar than Gourry. As for the sword being the
wrong color, chalk it up to artistic license.
It fits with my handle, since Gorunova is the name of the Sword of
Light. Depending on which translation you buy, that is. It's also been
called Goln Nova and Golun Nova, and one of the Lost Ships in Lost
Universe has also had all three names. It kinda ticks me off. I prefer
Gorunova because it's easier to pronounce, and it's a real-world name.
It's a Russian name, shared I believe by some current
Russian physicists.

| Oooh...
Quote: | ...so your name is based off a sword, too. Mine is as well... except that... my avatar... doesn't... really... reflect it like yours does. I mean, a fish girl... isn't quite as... effective... or relevant... or whatever... ^^;;

(Gawd, that'd suck if I got it wrong... like one of the other guys from Furuba... ^^;; )

Quote: | Heh... you're not trying to sound like Capt. Kirk above, are you? ;) So that's where your name's from... I hadn't realized it was from FoR. |

User, Melchior's avatar reminds you of Agent because the Agent (or
at least Free Agent) splash screen and icon have a secret-agent type
guy wearing a hat like that. I admit I can't place Melchior's avatar
at all.

Depends on how you read this site. Everytime I visit, I just to right to the "show messages since last visit" link (I leave my login cookie active all the time), and it gives me a neat list of the new messages sorted by thread. Then I just open the interesting threads in multiple windows, and the new messages are easy to find because they're always at the end.
I've gotta admit, this BB package xo is using is pretty slick. |
