Haaa... got my BW back. Finally decided to just give up on my Motorola Cybersurfer that I've had for 5 1/2 years as uploading had gotten to be too painful. Called Time-Warner/San Diego around 11 this morning; they would not commit to replacing the modem, but said they could send a *Cable Guy* (not the rarer, more talented, sub-species, *PC Guy*) here today to look at it. He showed around 2pm, looked at the modem for about 5 seconds, and without a word, took it to his truck, returning with a DOCSIS Motorola SB4200 Surfboard.

Took all of 5 minutes. Pings to *local-server* went from 80-120ms to 7ms and to *news-server* in 11ms. Upload went from dialup speed to the full cap.

Just thought I’d relate a *good* isp story at least once…

Like you, fellow broadband brother, I too have seen the light with RR.

Unfortunately, I don't get access to it during summer. When the time comes, I'll consider moving to a new city after I make sure that it's run by Time Warner. :)

ok, well I didn't go look up which ones Time Warner holds an iron fist over. (Versus the putty one that at&t uses) , but more importantly, I did find a link for the Roadrunner cities.

Heh. I've been reading Phil Karn's comments since RR started. We're both in san.rr.com and he was very active in the local help group at one time. As I guess is obvious, he's a long-time engineer at Qualcomm and he knows his *stuff*.
