This is a particular popular one amongst the fansubbers. I now have eps from bakamx, furuba, akf, and si. I don't expect I'll get to watch these anytime soon, so ...
Anyone evaluated amongst these and can make a recommendation? I prefer subtitles that flow well and are well edited over strictly best encoding quality.

Well lately I've only seen the aku and furaba (is that right?) versions posted... Aku seems to be a few eps ahead and their subs are fine- I always watch them first (for obvious reasons), but I really like the lettering styles that furaba uses- very close to the bakamx versions.
*shrug* just my opinion... both are highly adaquate. Oh ya, I'm pissed that whoever encoded the Akf one decided to up the resolution. That was a mistake. They did it with 18 too... :/ |

I like the furuba version, they seem closest to the ones that bakamx did before they stopped. I haven't watched the newer akf ones because the higher res doesn't play smoothly on my system, and I've only watched the SI version of ep 16. It seemed furuba and akf did a better job with some of Touru's dialog in that ep, but that's just my opinion. |

Ugh, well this is difficult which is why I delayed my answer. Furaba are certainly the nicest at the moment IMO. However there doesn't seem to be too much in the translation between groups from casual inspection (i.e. I watch as I get so end up watching a mix).
Personally I'd stick to Furaba from inspection, their SHQ are seriously large files so you get good image/sound and the translations are pretty good afaik. If you have speed problems though any will do. Overall I'd say a pretty good fansub release of this series thankfully. Time will tell if Funimation can do the same (I don't hold high hopes but apparently not everything they do is Dragonball Z'sed)
I'm biased though. I will never forgive Funimation for their version of DBZ, Disney for releasing R2 Mononoke Hime with *only* Dubtitles (which suck). Nor ADV for pretending they have a mysterious name (they don't), forgetting to release Slayers Movies and delaying Excel Saga because they spent too long w*nking over the final episode (I actually spoke to our 'friend' Andy 'Avatar' (censored) and he was clueless about ep 26).
Umm, which brings up a good issue actually. Xo, sometimes I get emotional over a topic and might be offensive, certainly I can imagine others to also be like this. How is your moderation concerning libel/freedom of expression for this board? |

I was actually disapointed by the Furaba SHQ release. At least on my P3-750 (which I guess is starting to get a little long in the tooth). I downloaded the first one (12) but have stayed away from them since.
Besides being larger and rendering slower, I still think they didn't have the bitrate high enough to handle some of the high motion scenes. Don't get me wrong, the latest AkuFansub eps are similar. Also, both look like they are TV caps, and I'm not sure they are really getting the resolution they think they are (they may be digital pulls- I don't know).
The only advantage that not resizing to 512x480 gets you is a lack of aliasing artifacts (those were painfully annoying to me in the FBC rips). I wish there was a HQ resize filter that did antialiasing somehow.
For what it is worth, I see the same thing with the X TV eps in terms of "quality" AP has decided to release in 640x480 but every time there is a fade they get blocking due to bit starvation.
I guess maybe it isn't noticable if you don't process video much but it really gets at me.

I don't plan on moderating and don't really care about colorful language. If this kinda of thing offends you then a couple of sites you might like better are http://www.disney.com and http://www.aol.com.
Abuse/misuse of the system is where I'd take action.
Having said all that, I notice your posts appears to have been censored. This is not my doing- it must be the default behaviour of this bb package. I have to admit this is my first installation of phpBB so I'm still tweaking here and there. I'll look into that and evaluate whether I want that or not (probably not). |

Wow! Cool! Disney have a website? ^_^
Hehe, well I don't care about it either although I tend not to use it, but I have a bad habit of writing/posting stuff when drunk so sometimes I get a bit 'colourful'
The [censored] part was just me btw |

Ah! You fooled me! I saw that and thought right away "Damn, I better go find out how to turn that off.".
Now I can put it off a little longer . |
