Help!
I can't seem to open ogm files in VirtualDub, even though WMP and TMPGEnc do so with nary a complaint. I've looked around Google, virtualdub.org, and doom9 but nothing obvious jumped out at me, which leads me to believe I'm missing something so blatantly stupid it isn't worth mentioning.
These files are killing me. I'm trying to do conversions to SVCD and invariably they come out stuttering in subtle but aggravating ways, so I thought I'd try re-encoding to divx3/4 just so I can watch it.

ogm files eh? Well.. if you go and get Vobsub, it will have a program in it called submux. This will multiplex your video and ogm file into the avi, so as long as you have the proper ogm decoder, you should be able to play it. Hope this helps

Cool, thanks for the lead, Tyreal, I'll look into Vobsub/submux. As you can probably tell, I don't know much technical details about the encoding side of things and all the software involved, so I appreciate the pointer.

@xo,
I use GraphEdit in order to split Video/Audio Stream out of OGM. It's ok for Video. However, as for the audio, I'm still not sure tho, my result goes unsync raw wav, which is nearly useless. For the sub, I still don't know how to put it out yet. IMHO, I think OGM is good for play but not for edit. As for the sub, I prefer SSA overlay by Vobsub over Sub Stream in OGM. (It looks really ugly compared to SSA, as for now)
If anyone know the way to pull off all steams in OGM, please help.

I agree with Waku on the video part, usually video won't give sync problems like audio would. vbr mp3 comes to mind as well. I just had a thought on the audio part however. Winamp plays ogg audio files through DS or wave out. Since it can also write out raw wavs, I'm guessing (Guessing!) that it could probably convert to wav format for you. That coupled with the ripped video file and you can convert with Vdub, which is all anyone would need.
As to why you would want to mess with the ogm, I'm sure everyone has their reasons, but if its not something like converting to svcd for format purposes, I'd think it wouldn't be worth the effort. Basically boils down to how well the author did it in the first place. With most movies I download now, that isn't an issue. |

There is a modified VirtualDub you can use for OGM files.
http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net
but suggest you also get OGMDemuxer which can split an OGM file into it's component parts. |

VirtualDubMod is not that bad, but I wouldn't recompress with it. I would demux first with ogmdemuxer, then re-encode the video. VirtualDubMod is only good for cutting ogm files. It's still quite unstable. Muxing, I would use OggMux. |
