I'm pretty new to posting on the anime groups, but I read the rules at this site and have been following them pretty much to the letter. I'm #anime-junkies new usenet distro.
I just noticed that people are posting 2-4 episodes at a time, and it is really murdering people with low to medium completion rates. I guess this is pretty much just a rant, but it is bothering me that I go through the trouble to follow the rules and post these files and they get bumped off the server in a day.
Are certain days busier than others? Is there a good day during the week to post stuff if you want it to last for a bit?
Kinda silly, but you never know. |

First off, I can understand your frustration, but hang in there. I'm sure I speak for many when I say your diligence is appreciated.

Interesting question. I queried the last animeusenet dataset I played with (up to this month) and got the following numbers (dow=day of week, 0=Sunday):
Code: |
.dow | aba | abma | abmar | total
-----+------+------+-------+-------
0 | 1519 | 1560 | 1044 | 4241
1 | 1655 | 1705 | 1175 | 4674
2 | 1621 | 1605 | 1237 | 4592
3 | 1682 | 1770 | 1243 | 4825
4 | 1569 | 1647 | 1161 | 4531
5 | 1491 | 1498 | 1138 | 4256
6 | 1462 | 1540 | 1049 | 4164
|
Seems like the trend is lower activity on weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun).
This is course is only a count of numbers of posts, not really a measure of the amount of bytes moving through the group, so take it with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately not. Xo's numbers don't show a huge amount of variation, but at times I've noticed that the difference between weekends/holidays and weekdays can be dramatic, but not always the same way. Sometimes weekends are light and sometimes they're heavy.
Anyway, welcome and hang in there. We tend to jump on people who post too much per day, and usually they settle down. The last week or two have been unusually bad for flood-posting. |

Thanks for the help and all the info here, and keep an eye out for our relelases. I guess the flood posting does seem worse now than it did before, now that I think about it. There are a few up there now that have 4+ episodes straight, that is murdering roadrunners low retention:(
Again, thanks for the help and kind words,

I just noticed the numbers don't add up- I forgot in my query that the database also contains records for abav and abat, so the total is higher than the sum aba+abma+abmar. It doesn't change the numbers much, but here are the corrected numbers for just the Big 3:
Code: |
.dow | aba | abma | abmar | total
-----+------+------+-------+-------
0 | 1519 | 1560 | 1044 | 4123
1 | 1655 | 1705 | 1175 | 4535
2 | 1621 | 1605 | 1237 | 4463
3 | 1682 | 1770 | 1243 | 4695
4 | 1569 | 1647 | 1161 | 4377
5 | 1491 | 1498 | 1138 | 4127
6 | 1462 | 1540 | 1049 | 4051
