...10/23: lots of additions and one change in *rank*, lol...
New shows -- something like 29 in 3 weeks, lol. I'll be brief with a couple of opinions. So far I haven't watched a second ep of any of these yet, and I usually try to get through 3 or 4 to give char based shows a chance.
Don't miss:
* Bleach (3 eps; get the ANBU/A-Keep ver; Lunar's has obvious t/l errors) -- an interesting take on the classic demon slayer mythos. Second ep was even better then the first. The *basics* of the series' world are established by the end of the 3rd ep -- I'd watch at least that far.
* School Rumble (Dash (2; '-'), an entertaining subber, lol) -- The big surprise for me so far; very funny
* Beck (2; A-E) -- A decent rock based anime; I'm not sure there ever has been one ...features the iconography of the Mojave too, lol
* Gankutsuou (1; A-Kraze (accept no substitutes, lol)) -- Stronger then I'd thought it would be; at first a little put off by the extreme style, but then the plot takes over and somehow the embelishments add to the needed decadent feel of the story
* Genshiken (1; Solar/Faith) -- Watching the prolog and OP won't give you a single clue what this is about; well, you'll get clues, but you'll be wrong -- a must watch for anyone who might ever have considered labeling themselves an otaku
* Yakitate!! Japan (2; A-Keep) -- Bread! And other stuff. Loved the 2nd ep. Now I'm wondering just how many shows they can do on bread
May be good:
* Mai-HiME (3; Anime-Keep) -- been enjoying this *school* anime; shares some odd plot elements with Bleach, including odd explanations for various distructive events
* Tsukuyomi Moon Phase (1; mahou) -- bit of a surprise as it looked like it might be some standard cutsy magic girl; actually very gothic, but with a bit of humor from interesting secondary characters.
* Tactics (1; AnY - poor encode) -- A Friend of Demons goes around dispelling evil -- hope there's a better encode & t/l though
* Fantastic Children (1, mahou) -- an odd mix; old fashioned char design mixed with alternate reality; very story based
OK, I guess:
* Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - Hachiyosho (1; Aoi-Anime (so far)) -- So Fushigi Yuugi like, they should pay for the rights; girl transported to the *past* (but via a well, lol), becomes the Miko w/7 Guardians, etc.; it will depend on the story-telling. Not sure it transends its genre, but for fans it may be a hit.
* SunaBouzu (1; Lunar) -- an overdone bit of Trigun in a post--Apocalypse Japan except with pudding instead of donuts -- not like anything so far this season, to its credit; that "Boobs" in the ep title means just what it says.
* Uta-Kata (1; Lunar) -- School girl becomes magic girl; alternate universe folks turn up; pantsu; cutsu.
* Kannaduki no Miko (1; SS) -- Mikos and mechs?!?. Yuri
--- subbing note: I watched ep 1 from Static-Subs and they're now up to ep 3. Meanwhile a4l and Shinsen-Subs have done ep 1. As Anime-Planet hasn't done an evaluation yet, a cursory look suggested that Static's t/l is the poorest of the three. To be fair to the series, I'm waiting to have a few more eps in hand by, particularly, Shinsen, before I look at it again. Bad subs do not a good review make.
* Gundam Seed Destiny -- just what you'd expect I guess; takes itself, and its primary-colored mechs very seriously
* Hoi Hoi-san (1; A-Flux; 10m/ep) -- just some little robotic girl pest exterminators, lol
* Grenadier (1; Lunar) -- Girl with gun, smile and large boobs; likes hot-springs
* Final Approach (3; Froth-Byte) -- After 1 ep: 15 year old girl says she's the fiance of 17 year old guy via government fiat. After 3 eps: Moved it up 2 notches, more then I would have thought possible; 2nd and 3rd ep introduce much more interesting chars and the *fiance* plot isn't quite as annoying. From the OP, while this would seem to be something of a harem anime, it really isn't -- no particular fan-service either, a bit of a surprise considering the main plot. The conflict of the fiance's and the master's auras in the 3rd ep is particularly fun, as the *men-in-black* continue to be
Better get better fast:
* Beet the Vandel Buster -- a pre-made card game I'd guess
* W-Wish (1; Froth-Byte; 12m/ep) -- Brother who can't remember past; younger sister that seems strangely attracted to him; too-cute-for-words style
Lost cause?:
* Kappa no Kaikata (Raising a Water Imp) (1) -- all I can say is: "purple poop"
I'll add more as the subs come out and the mood strikes. Looking forward to contrary opinions, lol

Few ones that are a bit odd or more of the same but funny and enjoyable nonetheless:
Ichigeki_Sacchuu!!_Hoihoi-san -- I was laughing through the whole thing, actually, even though I'll admit that it is a bit stupid.
Suna Bouzu -- Large breasted women seem to be the bane of Japanese hero even after the apocalypse. Funny, but probably not worth burning. |

I have some hope for SunaBouszu -- it has an interesting style and an infatuation with pudding.

So far I'm more or less right in line with your original ranking, (inc). I have some hope for Mai Hime, but even though Beck has interesting characters I generally dislike band anime so much that I probably won't follow it. I'll see what episode 2 is like.
So far Bleach and School Rumble look like the best of the new batch, though they don't seem really terriffic. Watchable, but likely not all-time favorites.
Hoihoi-san made me laugh too. Plus it's cute.
Beet - first off, what the heck is a "vandel"? Did they maybe mean "vandal"? Second, we have Pokemon and Yugioh already - I didn't request any more series based on card games, did you? |

What do people think of Ganketsuoh? I haven't (and won't) watch that one til I have all of the episodes (probably by A-kraze) since it is the one that appeals to me the most.
Uta-Kata was dumb .. and the characters reminded me of the two girls from Kiddy Grade. Well, mainly their hair and their faces, but whenever I am reminded of another anime that wasn't very good, the chances that I will like the new anime decrease =P
Kannaduki no Miko was worse than Uta-Kata.
School Rumble was cute -- I loved the bike chasing scene
I probably won't be able to watch many of the new series' though since I am still watching some of last season and assorted other stuff, so I will skip watching Beck/Mai-Hime/Bleach (since they seem to be the good ones) and just keep them around til I have all of the episodes and I'll watch the forgettable stuff instead like I always do =P. |

I've been avoiding Ganketsuoh until the A-Kraze version comes out -- as it seems to be the only one of the new shows they may be doing (so far), I expect they'll be very careful with it.

Yeah... I am getting the A-Kraze versions as well but I don't want to watch it if it is good because I hate waiting for new episodes on shows that I like =P |

Posting Ganketsuoh by A-Kraze; also added above, along with a couple of others.

Just mentioning: moved Final Approach up a couple of notches -- very surprising, but I guess that's what can happen with these really short shows (12min/ep). With the intro of the rest of its (more interesting) cast, the show lost the clastrophobic narrowness that it had in the first ep. And it got funnier; always a plus for a comedy.

Melchior's promising picks of the season:
1) Yakitate! (2 eps, A-E)
2) Bleach
3) School Rumble.
The other shows that I've watched so far (haven't seen 'em all) have been run-of-the-mill or worse. Yakitate is the one I'm most interested in right now-- it's very much from the young-boy-with-great-abilities category, but as of the second ep, it seems promising. Yeah, it's about bread, but Hikaru no Go was about Go and they made that one pretty exciting! |

Adding to my list above, I'm just going to add that I've watched the first two eps of Genshiken, and it's *great*. I wonder if my fiancee would appreciate the humour... |
